Operational Principle
All HIT wire rope hoists are based on the same operational principle.  A wire rope of any chosen length is fed straight through two pairs of gripping jaws.  By moving the hand crank back and forth, the cable is shifted without jolting or sliding, either forward or backward, as required.  A clever lever mechanism ensures that, in turn, one pair of gripping jaws opens and grips the cable, while the other remains closed.  Both gripping jaws close automatically when under stress.  The clamping pressure increases in proportion to the tractive force. 
Safety
The superior safety of the HABEGGER wire rope hoists is the result of many individual characteristics:  brilliantly simple construction, extremely firm, tempered materials, and in addition an overload safety device.  At a load of one and a half times the nominal force, the safety pin is sheared off.  The load can nevertheless be lowered.  Replacement pins - always readily accessible in the carrying handle or lever - can quickly be fitted.  The special HABEGGER wire ropes are a crucial factor in the entire safety design.
